How I Thrive: R&ARIE Founder Reeba Daniel

How I Thrive takes an inside look at founders, entrepreneurs and leaders and the behind-the-scenes self-care work they do to in order to live balanced, happy lives. Today's edition is with R&ARIE Founder Reeba Daniel, who believes that self-care means setting safe boundaries ... and sometimes it means eating a late-night sundae.

Name: Reeba Daniel

City: Portland, Oregon

Age: 38

Company: R&ARIE, a company that manufactures self-care products, collaborates with small businesses, and aims to support women and heal the planet.

Role: Founder & CEO
Beyond the role:  I am a mother, social justice advocate, herbalist, and gardener. My interests include building intentional communities, food autonomy, and increasing equity for the underserved. I enjoy outdoor activities with my family and traveling, too.

Morning routine:

My mornings start with gratitude. I thank the universe and my body for bringing me back from rest. As I brush my teeth and get ready for the day, I recite self-worth affirmations. Before my family is up, I find a quiet spot and comfortable position to set my intentions for the day and decide where my efforts and energy is most useful for the day. A couple hours into work my little one awakes and the real day begins.

The first thing I do after work:

I look at the list I created throughout the day and what I have accomplished. I cross each one out, make my new list, and close the laptop. I have the little one with me throughout the workday, but we make dinner together, watch a movie, and read stories before bedtime.

Dinner ritual:

We usually eat at 6 p.m. My little one usually chooses the menu for the evening and helps in preparation or choosing what to order for take out. Some days there are just not enough hours. We do love to cook at home and eat what we grow.

Nighttime routine:

Gratitude and water is my grounding. My evening routine includes a shower steamer or R&ARIE bath balm and self-massage. Bathtime is very special time for me. I sometimes add orange slices, roses, and a bay leaf. Before I sleep, I place a crystal under my pillow and I set my intention for where I want to go in my dreams.

Self-care guilty pleasure:

Late-night sundaes.

Workday self-care hack:

Taking frequent stops and walking breaks from projects, drinking yummy teas and making sure to connect with my sister and mom daily on the phone.

How do you define self-care?

Self-care is setting safe boundaries and working to have your needs met emotionally, physically, metaphysically, financially, unapologetically, and holistically.

Favorite childhood toy or hobby:

A small doll I named Tina Turner and a sound board with a mic and cassette recorder.

State of your (email) inbox:

My emails are a mess!
